Rue de la Poste, 73150 Val-d'Isère, Savoie, France
Christmas 2024
In the heart of the ski resort of Val d’Isère, at the bottom of the slopes, this very large hotel, located in this small high mountain village of the Vanoise, counts 113 rooms. Our larger hotel so far.
It represented a real challenge for us. How to recreate a contemporary mountain spirit ? Quite immediately, this massive building made of slate, concrete and wood made us think of an American-style lodge : wooden logs, branches, stone layout and woodwork will be our starting point ! “The spirit of the forest” will be our architectural system, to design the door frames, cupboards, headboards, handles, bathroom furniture and benches around the stoic stone fireplace. We also of course wanted to play with skiing. Val d’Isère is a demanding, sporty, recognized resort. So we designed mirror frames inspired by ski spatulas, used snow-white marble, designed table legs made from ski pole slices... And above all, we invented the “ski” coating! A coating reminiscent of the snow of the famous Face de Bellevarde slope after a day of skiing, namely long and wide traces sculpted in a lime coating. So of course we had to talk about Savoy, its traditions: Savoyard wooden chests that were passed down from father to son, carved wooden imprints to mark your bread before taking it to the common wood oven of the village below the station.
