We were invited to participate to Doppia Firma, edition 2021, a collaboration between a designer and a fine crafstman from Italy, organized by Fondazione Cologni and Fondazione Michelangelo.
We had the chance to work with Morelato’s ebenisteria, outside Milano. The brief was to create an outdoor piece of furniture.
Our armchair was inspired by the very classic wooden “Cape Cod” beach chairs. It is a reinterpretation of this type of chair in a smaller version but still of significant dimensions and with a solid back, very representative of our recent work. The piece is made from solid ash and mahogany. The cabinet-makers have expertly inserted some details on the back and the wooden slats are assembled using the classic Morelato “butterflies”. The rear part is not flat as would be expected but curved, with an original and surprising effect. This is a fantastic exercise of skilfulness in execution, where the beauty of the woods and of their alternating light and dark shades make the piece very elegant and exquisite.
The armchair will be presented during the Salone del Mobile in Milano.
